A Poem to Jerusalem

By: Forida Ahmed, Brooklyn College

My first impression of you was darkness but my heart raced in anticipation for the

morning

I walked down the dark city streets waiting for something to resonate with me

You're more than the blood and war that the media portrays you to be

The people, the hardship, the pain I've seen does not seem to define you

Your people are loving, open and willing to help in an instant

I saw them fighting to live and love despite the pain and it filled my heart

Now, as I leave you, the only thing that eases my heart is the thought that, soon, I will

return

Jerusalem I can't forget you
