About Us

The David Project positively shapes campus opinion on Israel by educating, training, and empowering student leaders to be thoughtful, strategic and persuasive advocates.

Our approach, which we call relational advocacy, emphasizes building relationships with diverse communities on campus and helping students to use their Israel experience to relate to their peers. We encourage them to get to know what is important to the student leaders they are engaging and find common ground. Then, by helping our students plan innovative programming that brings together two or more groups, we are elevating the campus conversation. More students are being reached and, often for the first time, Israel is brought into their world views. This improves both Israel’s perception and the campus overall.

A Note from our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our website! We are so excited to have a new look that reflects our new direction!

As you may know, The David Project has gone through a pretty significant shift in how we do things. Our mission is basically the same—to shape the campus discussion on Israel—but we are doing it in a very different way. We have moved from a more frontal approach to advocacy to a more relational approach. We believe relationships make the world go round. We educate and empower students in both the content and the skills necessary to form a robust network of relationships on campus, and teach and guide them in leveraging those relationships to raise understanding and support for Israel. We also have moved from addressing problems wherever they appear (there are 4000 institutions of higher learning in this country alone!) to a more focused approach in which we pick our spots carefully, knowing that to be all things to all people means that you are not going to be very effective at any one place.

Our goal is to help improve the campus environment, and that means directing our efforts in places where we can really make a difference. Our new website is designed to help empower student leaders and to tell our story, and the stories of our students, to the larger community of supporters for Israel. We hope you will join us on this journey to make campus a more thoughtful, nuanced and supportive environment for Israel and its supporters!

Sincerely,

David Bernstein, Executive Director
